How Wingspan Scoring Works

Wingspan games are decided across six categories, all added together at the end of round four. Here's what counts in each — and where the sneaky points hide.

1Birds

Each bird card shows its point value in the top-left feather icon. At game end, add up the printed values of every bird you've played across all three habitats. This is usually your biggest category — bird points often make up a third to half of a winning score.

2Bonus Cards

Score each bonus card you kept, based on how well your final board matches its condition — "Photographer" counts birds with color in their names, "Bird Bander" counts birds with no eggs, and so on. Most cards score in brackets (e.g. 4–5 matching birds = 3 points, 6+ = 6 points), so check each card's own table.

3End-of-Round Goals

After each of the four rounds, players are ranked on that round's goal — most birds in the forest, most eggs in bowl nests, and so on. On the green side of the goal board, placing earns podium points that grow every round (first place in round 4 is worth 7); on the blue side, you score a point per qualifying item, capped at 5 per round. Record what you earned each round and total it here.

4Eggs

Count every egg token sitting on your birds, in any nest, in any habitat — each is worth 1 point. Don't underestimate this category: a late-game egg engine routinely lays 15–25 points, and 'boring' egg turns win close games.

5Food on Cards

Some birds (mostly predators and corvids) cache food tokens on their card when their power triggers. Each cached token is worth 1 point at game end. Food still in your personal supply scores nothing — only food ON birds counts.

6Tucked Cards

Flocking birds tuck cards face-down beneath themselves when activated. Each tucked card is worth 1 point. A well-fed flocking engine (think American Coot or Common Raven builds) can quietly stack up 10–20 points here.

Scoring the Wingspan Expansions

European Expansion: European birds score through the same six base-game categories — no new rows on the score sheet. The difference is in the birds themselves: many have round-end powers and "yellow" game-end powers that feed eggs, tucked cards, and cached food harder than the base deck.

Oceania Expansion: Oceania adds a seventh scoring category — nectar. At game end, the player with the most spent nectar in each habitat scores 5 points and second place scores 2, habitat by habitat. It also swaps in new player mats and adds the nectar food type, which counts as wild for bird costs.

Asia: Wingspan Asia works as a standalone two-player game and as an expansion. Its Duet mode adds the duet map — at game end you score points for your contiguous groups of duet tokens — and round-end Duet goals worth 2, 3, 4, then 5 points across the four rounds. Flock mode scales the game to 6–7 players using the familiar six base categories.

Americas: the newest expansion adds the Hummingbird Track — at game end, each player scores points based on how far they advanced along it. Everything else lands in the six base buckets.

This calculator covers the base-game categories; the Meeply app has Wingspan's expansions in its catalog — nectar majorities, duet maps, and the Hummingbird Track included — so game night doesn't stall on habitat-by-habitat arithmetic.

Wingspan Scoring Questions

How do you score Wingspan?
Add up six categories at game end: the printed value of your birds, your bonus cards, end-of-round goals, 1 point per egg on your birds, 1 point per food token cached on birds, and 1 point per card tucked under birds. The highest total wins.
How many points are eggs worth in Wingspan?
Every egg on a bird is worth 1 point, regardless of nest type or habitat. Eggs are frequently the difference-maker — an egg-focused endgame can add 20 or more points.
Who wins a tie in Wingspan?
The official rule: the tied player with the most unused food tokens left in their supply wins. If that also ties, the rulebook says the players share the victory.
What is a good Wingspan score?
In casual play most winning scores land between 70 and 90 points. Experienced players regularly break 100, and tuned engines can go higher — if you cleared 80, you played a strong game.
How do end-of-round goals score?
It depends on which side of the goal board you use. The green side ranks players and awards podium points that increase each round — first place in round 4 earns 7. The blue side skips the ranking and gives 1 point per qualifying item, up to 5 per round.
Does this work with the European and Oceania expansions?
The calculator covers the base game. European birds score through the same six categories, and Oceania adds nectar: the most nectar in each habitat scores 5 points, second place scores 2. The Meeply app scores expansions automatically - nectar majorities, new bonus cards, extra round goals, all handled.
How do Wingspan Asia and the Americas expansion score?
Asia's Duet mode adds two things: round-end Duet goals worth 2, 3, 4, then 5 points, and end-game points for your contiguous groups of duet tokens on the duet map. The Americas expansion adds the Hummingbird Track, which scores based on how far you advanced by game end. Both otherwise use the six base categories.
Is there a Wingspan score sheet I can use online?
This page works as one: a free digital Wingspan score sheet with the official six categories and the math done for you. For games you want to keep — with player stats and win rates — the Meeply app has a rules-aware Wingspan scoresheet and can even scan the paper pad.
Can I scan my paper Wingspan score pad instead of typing?
Yes — that is exactly what the Meeply app does. Snap a photo of your filled-in Wingspan score sheet and the scores fill themselves in, already split by category. Scanning is part of Meeply Premium.
