How Creature Comforts Scoring Works

Creature Comforts plays out over eight months on the year track: each round you send your critters out to place dice and gather goods, then spend them crafting comforts from the market. Nothing scores until the fire dies down at the end of the year, when six categories are added together. Here's each piece — including the two that trip everyone up on the last turn.

1Comfort Cards

Each comfort card you crafted over the year shows a printed point value, and many add bonus points based on what else you built — matching families, sets of colors, or icons across your village. Add the printed value and any bonus each comfort earns, and total it here. Comforts are usually the largest slice of a winning score.

2Improvements

Improvements are the cards you slot along your cottage to upgrade what your dice can do. At game end each one you built is worth the points printed on it. They tend to be smaller than comforts individually, but a cottage lined with improvements adds up quietly.

3Cottage Spaces

As you fill in your cottage over the eight months, some spaces reveal point values printed on the board beneath them. Add up every point value you've uncovered on your cottage board and enter the total.

4Coins

Any coins still in your possession when the final month ends are worth 1 point each. They are the smallest category, but leftover coins are the classic tiebreak-adjacent points that turn a near-miss into a win.

5Stories

Story tokens are the keepsakes you earn from gathering around the fire — completing certain actions and comforts hands them out through the year. Each story token is worth 2 points at game end. Enter how many tokens you collected and the calculator doubles them for you.

6Leftover Goods

Every good still in your supply at the end of the game — wood, stone, yarn, and the rest — counts toward this category. Group them in threes: every three leftover goods is worth 1 point, and any remainder is worth nothing. Do the division, round down, and enter the resulting points here (12 leftover goods, for example, is 4 points).

Beyond the Base Game

Creature Comforts has a lighter shelf of add-ons than most engine builders. The Seasonal expansion folds in extra content that mixes into the same six-category scoring rather than bolting on new totals, and Kids Table has released small Trellis & Vine–style promo comforts and cottage bits over time. If you play with those in, the sheet above still holds — the new cards simply feed the comfort, improvement, and story rows you already know.

Creature Comforts Scoring Questions

How do you score Creature Comforts?
Creature Comforts scores entirely at the end of the year. Add up six categories: the printed and bonus points on your comfort cards, the points on your improvement cards, the values revealed on your cottage board, 1 point per leftover coin, 2 points per story token, and 1 point for every three leftover goods. The highest total wins.
How do comfort card bonuses work?
Beyond a printed value, many comfort cards award bonus points based on the rest of your village — matching colors or families, collecting sets, or repeating an icon across the comforts you crafted. Check each comfort at game end and score its printed value plus whatever bonus its condition earns. This calculator takes the combined comfort total, so tally each card first.
Do leftover goods score in Creature Comforts?
Yes, but gently. Every three goods left in your supply at the end of the game is worth 1 point, rounded down — so three goods is 1 point, eight goods is 2 points, and one or two leftover goods score nothing. It rewards not wasting your gathering without letting hoarding win the game.
What are story tokens worth in Creature Comforts?
Each story token is worth 2 points at game end. You earn them through the year by gathering around the fire — completing certain actions and comforts. Enter your token count in the Stories row and the calculator doubles it.
What is a good Creature Comforts score?
A comfortable game usually lands somewhere between 50 and 65 points. Cracking 75 means your comforts, improvements, and stories all pulled together — a genuinely cozy, well-built year.
Who wins a tie in Creature Comforts?
The rulebook breaks a tie in favor of the tied player with the most leftover goods in their supply. If it is still a tie after that, the players share the victory.
Does Meeply support Creature Comforts?
Yes — Creature Comforts is one of 300+ games with a rules-aware scoresheet in the free Meeply app, story tokens doubled and leftover goods divided for you, so nobody miscounts the fireside points on the last turn.
