How Gaia Project Scoring Works

Gaia Project scores in two stages. Across six rounds you push your marker along the score track — everyone starts at 10 VP — and then, when the last round ends, four end-game buckets land on top of it. That second stage is where close games flip: the two final scoring tiles alone are worth up to 36 VP, enough to overturn a lead built over three hours. Here's each row, and where the points hide.

1Game Score Track

Everything you earned during the six rounds is already recorded on the score track, so this row is simply your marker's position when the last round ends. Every player starts the game at 10 VP, and from there points arrive from round scoring tiles, booster tiles, standard and advanced tech tiles, federation tokens, and various faction and structure powers. The track can move backwards too — charging power from a neighbor's structures costs victory points — so read the number off the board rather than reconstructing it from memory.

2Final Scoring Tile 1

Two of the six final scoring tiles are drawn at setup, and they're public from turn one. The pool covers things like most structures in federations, most structures overall, most different planet types colonized, most Gaia planets colonized, most sectors colonized, and most satellites built. At game end, count each player's total for this tile and rank them: 18 VP for first, 12 for second, 6 for third, nothing for fourth. Tied players share the points for the positions they occupy, rounded down. In games with fewer than four players a neutral marker also competes on the tile, so a modest result can still get pushed down a rank.

3Final Scoring Tile 2

The second tile is drawn from the remaining options and scores exactly the same way — 18 / 12 / 6 for the top three, ties shared and rounded down, a neutral marker in play below four players. The two tiles are scored independently of each other, which is why a player who quietly took second on both can pass someone who dominated one of them. Between the two, 36 VP is on the table for a player who wins both.

4Research Scoring

Walk each of the six research tracks and award 4 VP for every level 3, 4, and 5 you have reached. A track you climbed to level 3 pays 4 VP, level 4 pays 8, and level 5 pays 12 — you score for the qualifying levels you passed, not just the one you're standing on. This is the bucket people most often shortchange themselves on, because it's tempting to look at a marker on level 4 and write down 4 instead of 8. Levels 1 and 2 pay nothing here.

5Resource Scoring

Pool the credits, knowledge, and ore left in your supply at the end of the game and score 1 VP for every 3, counting them in any combination — 2 ore, 3 credits, and 4 knowledge is 9 resources and 3 VP. Power tokens and Q.I.C. do not count toward this total, although the free-action conversions on your player board let you turn some of them into resources that do, which is worth doing on your final turn before anyone starts counting.

The five rows above cover the base game; an expansion, Gaia Project: The Lost Fleet, adds further content on top of it.

Looking for a Gaia Project Score Sheet?

If you came here hunting for a Gaia Project score sheet to print, the calculator above does the same job with the math built in — one row for the score track, one for each end-game bucket, one column per player, totals handled. It forgets everything when you leave, though. For a score sheet that remembers — every game, every player, every win — Gaia Project is one of 300+ games in the free Meeply app.

Gaia Project Scoring Questions

How do you score Gaia Project?
Gaia Project scores in two stages. Throughout the six rounds you record victory points on the score track — every player starts at 10 VP and adds points from round scoring tiles, boosters, tech tiles, federations, and faction powers. Then at game end you add four more buckets: the first final scoring tile, the second final scoring tile, 4 VP for every level 3, 4, and 5 reached on the research tracks, and 1 VP per 3 leftover credits, knowledge, or ore. The highest total wins.
How do the final scoring tiles work in Gaia Project?
Two of the six final scoring tiles are drawn at setup and stay visible all game — most structures in federations, most planet types colonized, most Gaia planets, most sectors, most satellites, and most structures overall. Each tile is scored separately at the end by ranking the players on it: 18 VP for first, 12 for second, 6 for third, and nothing for fourth. Tied players share the points for the positions they occupy, rounded down. In games with fewer than four players a neutral marker competes on each tile as well.
How does research scoring work at the end of Gaia Project?
You score 4 VP for each level 3, 4, and 5 you have reached on any of the six research tracks — so a track topped out at level 5 is worth 12 VP, level 4 is worth 8, and level 3 is worth 4. Levels 1 and 2 are worth nothing at final scoring. Count the qualifying levels you passed, not the number your marker is sitting on.
Do leftover resources score in Gaia Project?
Yes. Credits, knowledge, and ore left in your supply score 1 VP for every 3, and they can be combined freely — nine resources in any mix is 3 VP. Power tokens and Q.I.C. do not count, so spend or convert them before the game ends rather than leaving them stranded on your board.
Why does everyone start Gaia Project with 10 points?
That is simply the starting position on the score track — every player begins the game at 10 VP. It matters for the calculator above because the score track row should be read straight off the board, with that 10 already included, rather than added on separately.
What is a good Gaia Project score?
Winning scores usually land somewhere between about 120 and 160 points, though the spread depends heavily on the faction lineup and which final scoring tiles came out. Past 160 is a strong game. What matters more than the raw number is the gap: because the two final tiles are worth up to 36 VP, a game that looks decided after round six often is not.
Is there a Gaia Project score sheet I can use online?
This page works as one: a free digital Gaia Project score sheet with a row for the score track and one for each end-game bucket, with the math done for you. It forgets everything when you close the tab, though. For a score sheet that remembers — every game, every player, every win — Gaia Project is one of 300+ games in the free Meeply app.
Does Meeply support Gaia Project?
