How Barrage Scoring Works

Barrage is a game about water falling: you build dams high on the mountain, run conduits down to your powerhouses, and turn the flow into energy. Most of your points get banked while you play rather than counted at the end — so final scoring is mostly a matter of reading the board correctly. Here are the four buckets, and where each one hides.

1Energy Track Position

Producing energy is the engine of the whole game, and the Energy Track is where those points are recorded as you earn them. You don't recompute anything here at the end — find your marker on the track and enter the number it sits on. For most players this is the biggest single bucket on the sheet, which is why a company that never gets water falling through a powerhouse rarely wins.

2Fulfilled Contracts

Contracts are the jobs you take on and then satisfy by hitting the energy output they demand when you produce. Each one shows its own victory point value, and both the private contracts you held and the public ones off the board count the same way. Collect the contracts you actually fulfilled and add up their printed values — an unfulfilled contract is worth nothing, no matter how close you came.

3Objective Tiles

Each round puts an objective tile in play, and the players who meet its condition score the points it shows. Because these land round by round rather than at the end, they're the easiest points to lose track of — by the final tally nobody remembers who hit the round-two tile. Keep a running note as you go, then enter the sum of everything you scored from objectives here.

4Resources

At the very end of the game your leftover money converts to points: every 5 credits still in your supply is worth 1 victory point. Count your credits, divide by five, and drop the remainder — that result is what goes in this row, not the credit total itself. It's usually a small number, but it's the bucket that decides close games, so don't spend down to zero on a build that won't pay you back.

If you play with The Leeghwater Project expansion, you'll have new executive officers, buildings, and contracts in the mix, but what they earn you still funnels into the four buckets above.

Barrage Scoring Questions

How do you score Barrage?
Barrage adds four things together: your position on the Energy Track, the printed value of every contract you fulfilled, the points you earned from the round objective tiles, and 1 point for every 5 credits left in your supply. The highest total wins.
How does the Energy Track score in Barrage?
The Energy Track records the victory points you've earned from producing energy over the course of the game, so there's nothing to recalculate at the end — read the number your marker is sitting on and enter it. It's typically the largest bucket on the sheet.
How do contracts score in Barrage?
Each contract shows its own victory point value, and you score it once the contract is fulfilled by producing the energy it demands. Private contracts and public contracts score exactly the same way. Contracts you never completed are worth nothing.
How do objective tiles score in Barrage?
One objective tile is in play each round, and the players who meet its condition score the points shown on it. They're scored as the rounds go by rather than all at the end, so it's worth jotting them down when they happen — they're the points most often forgotten during the final count.
Do leftover credits score in Barrage?
Yes. At game end you score 1 victory point for every 5 credits remaining in your supply, rounding down. Four credits are worth nothing; ten are worth two points. Everything else you own — machinery, excavators, water in your basin — scores nothing on its own.
Does Barrage score during the game or at the end?
Both, in a sense. Energy points and objective tiles are banked as you play, and contracts pay out when you fulfill them, so by the last round most of your score already exists on the board. The final scoring step is really just reading those totals off and adding your leftover credits.
