How Summer Pavilion Scoring Works

Summer Pavilion scores as you play across six rounds — a new wild color each round — and the end-game bonuses decide the winner. Here's each piece, including the surplus-tile penalty everyone forgets.

1Score track

Summer Pavilion scores mostly during play. Each tile you place on a star scores 1 point plus 1 for every tile already adjacent along that star, so filling a star late pays off. Covering a numbered space or a special star triggers bonus tile draws from the pillars, statues, and windows around your board — free tiles that fuel your next placement. At the end of each round you may keep up to four surplus tiles; every tile beyond that costs you 1 point. Enter each player's final marker position here.

2Completed Stars

At game end you score a bonus for every star you fill completely. Because each star is a different color, the bonuses differ: multicolor 12, red 14, blue 15, yellow 16, orange 17, green 18, and purple 20. Add up the bonuses for the stars you finished and enter that single total here — the same way the Meeply app captures your Completed Stars.

3Number Bonuses

You also score for covering matching numbered spaces across all six of your stars. Cover all four 1-spaces for +4, all four 2-spaces for +8, all four 3-spaces for +12, and all four 4-spaces for +16 — 40 points if you complete every number. Total whatever you finished and enter it here.

The Rest of the Azul Family

Summer Pavilion is a standalone game rather than an expansion, but it shares a designer and a drafting DNA with the rest of the line. The original Azul fills a fixed 5×5 wall and rewards complete rows, columns, and colors. Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra stacks panes into columns, and Azul: Queen's Garden builds outward from a central pattern — each with its own end-game bonuses. Four games in the family, four different score sheets.

Summer Pavilion Scoring Questions

Is there a Azul: Summer Pavilion score sheet I can use online?
This page works as one: a free digital Azul: Summer Pavilion score sheet with a row for every scoring category and the math done for you. For games you want to keep - with player stats and win rates - the Meeply app has a rules-aware Azul: Summer Pavilion scoresheet. Free to try.
How do you score Azul Summer Pavilion?
Most points come during the six rounds: each tile you place scores 1 plus the tiles already adjacent on its star, and unused tiles beyond four cost 1 point each at round end. At game end you add two bonus groups — star-completion bonuses (which vary by color) and number bonuses for covering matching numbered spaces. This calculator adds those end-game bonuses to your final track score.
What are the star completion bonuses?
You score a bonus for each star you fill completely, and the amount depends on the star's color: multicolor 12, red 14, blue 15, yellow 16, orange 17, green 18, and purple 20 points. The harder-to-reach stars are worth the most.
What are the number bonuses?
You score for covering the matching numbered spaces across your stars: all four 1s are worth +4, all four 2s +8, all four 3s +12, and all four 4s +16 — 40 points if you cover every number.
How is Summer Pavilion scoring different from Azul?
Base Azul rewards complete rows (+2), columns (+7), and colors (+10) on a fixed 5×5 wall. Summer Pavilion drops that wall for six radial stars and a wild color that rotates each round, so its end-game bonuses are star-completion and number bonuses instead. If you want the original, the Azul score calculator at /games/azul covers it.
What is a good Summer Pavilion score?
A typical finish lands between 70 and 100 points. Cracking 120 almost always means you completed several of the high-value stars and stacked the number bonuses on top.
Who wins a tie in Azul Summer Pavilion?
The tied player who completed the most stars wins. If that is still even, the rulebook calls it a shared victory.
