How Stone Age Scoring Works

Stone Age scores in two waves. Huts and a few civilization cards pay out during the game, moving your marker along the scoring track — and then, when the game ends, the civilization cards you collected cash in all at once. That second wave is usually the bigger one, so a player trailing on the track all evening can still win. Here's each category, in the order it's easiest to count.

1Hut & Scoring Track Points

Unlike most of the tally, these points arrive during the game. Every hut you build scores immediately — you move your marker up the scoring track the moment you pay for it — and civilization cards that hand out points on the spot move the same marker. When the last hut stack empties (or the card row can't be refilled), whatever is on the track is your starting number. Read it off before you touch anything else, because the rest of the categories get piled on top of it.

2Tool Maker Cards × Tools

The first of the four multiplier types. Count the tool maker symbols across your civilization cards, then multiply by the number of tools you have. One tool maker with three tools is 3 points; three tool makers with three tools is 9. Enter the finished product in the row — the multiplier is different for every player, so the calculator can't guess it for you.

3Hut Builder Cards × Huts

Count the hut builder symbols on your civilization cards and multiply by the number of huts sitting in front of you at game end. This one quietly rewards a hut-heavy game twice: once when each hut scored on the track, and again here. Work out the product and enter it.

4Shaman Cards × People

Count the shaman symbols on your civilization cards and multiply by the number of people in your tribe — the figures you place as workers, not the food you feed them. A tribe grown to its full size turns even a couple of shamans into a serious number, which is why players who bought people early tend to hunt shamans late.

5Farmer Cards × Agriculture

Count the farmer symbols on your civilization cards and multiply by your agriculture level — how far your marker climbed up the food track over the game. Farmers are the one multiplier tied to something you were probably building anyway to keep the tribe fed, so check the track before you clear the board.

6Civilization Card Sets

There are eight different green culture symbols, and a set of them scores the square of how many different ones you collected: 1 symbol is 1 point, 2 is 4, 3 is 9, then 16, 25, 36, 49, and all eight is 64. Duplicates don't extend a set — group them into a second set and score that one the same way. This is the category people underestimate; going from five different symbols to six is worth 11 points on its own.

7Leftover Resources

Every resource you're still holding at the end — wood, brick, stone, and gold alike — is worth 1 point apiece, regardless of what it cost to gather. It's a small category, but it's the one that decides close games, so count your supply rather than sweeping it back into the box.

Stone Age Scoring Questions

How do you score Stone Age?
Stone Age scores in two waves. During the game you bank points on the scoring track from every hut you build and from civilization cards that award points immediately. At the end you add four multiplier categories from your civilization cards — tool makers × your tools, hut builders × your huts, shamans × your people, and farmers × your agriculture level — plus points for sets of different green culture symbols and 1 point per leftover resource. The highest total wins.
How do the civilization card multipliers work in Stone Age?
Four of the card symbols multiply rather than add. Count how many of a given symbol you collected, then multiply by the matching thing you own: tool makers by your number of tools, hut builders by your huts, shamans by the people in your tribe, and farmers by your position on the food track. Each pair is worked out separately and then added in, so two shamans and a five-person tribe is 10 points from that category alone.
How do you score the green civilization card sets?
A set of different green culture symbols scores the square of the number of different symbols in it: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, and 64 for all eight. Because it squares, each additional symbol is worth more than the last — the eighth symbol alone adds 15 points. Duplicate symbols start a second set, which is scored the same way.
Do leftover resources score points in Stone Age?
Yes. Each resource still in your supply at game end is worth 1 point, whether it's wood, brick, stone, or gold. Gold costs far more to gather but scores the same 1 point here, so hoarding it purely for the end-game point is rarely the plan — it's the leftovers you couldn't spend that matter.
When do hut points get scored?
Immediately. The moment you pay for a hut you move your marker up the scoring track, so those points are already counted before final scoring starts. The same goes for civilization cards that award points on the spot. At game end you read your marker's position and use it as the first line of the tally, then add the end-game categories on top.
Does the Stone Age Anniversary Edition score differently?
No — the Anniversary Edition is the same game with new artwork and upgraded components, and the scoring categories are unchanged, so this calculator works for either version.
